Tutti Fruity

It's been a HOT summer.
I don't mind HOT. It's the HUMIDITY that drowns out all hope to open up the windows and just feel summer. 90+% humidity isn't fun.
Our little woods feels like a rain forest. I think the trees are dripping hot water drops. All of our glass has fogged up due to the moisture!! Boo hoo! We tried a little family walk last night. It felt like we were in a sauna! The bumble bees must love the humidity. They danced all around Jon and Laney (I took this from across the road, so it's pretty fuzzy). After early baths....cool, cool water soothed the hot little ones...we enjoyed summer...inside.

I picked up some fresh Michigan peaches, and made a nice cobbler! YUM!
Lauren's Peach Cobbler:

1. slice up fresh peaches (no skins)
2. mix butter, oats, sugar, brown sugar, flour, cinnamon and nutmeg (any amounts that you like--I just add whatever) in Cuisinart until butter is the size of raisins.
3. Place peaches in pan, dump topping over.
4. Bake 350 for about 30 min. or until topping starts to brown.

This little guy double fisted his sippies while the kitchen was buzzing. Soon, hubs decided to make blueberry smoothies! Again, thumbs up from the taste testers! My sweet baby wasn't into the evening's fruit, but he is definitely into this! And Superman is his passenger of choice!
After a fruity evening, it was off to bed. Thirty minutes into my sleep, Henry woke up. He continued to wake up about 5 more times during the night. I'm thinking teeth. I would lay down on the floor next to his crib and talk to him. Once asleep, I would sneak back to my own bed. I was up and down a lot...in and out of his room.
THEN, the Great Storm of 2010 hit! There was a tornado warning and the winds were up to 60 mph! High winds and a ton of lightning do not mix well with the trees in our woods! The kiddos were put down in the basement. The storm passed.
THEN the electricity went on, off, on, off about a million times. Faster than a child can flip a light switch. Finally, darkness. It was absolutely silent outside (and in) and it was pitch black. Jokes aside, it made me wonder if this is what Helen Keller felt. It was smothering! The thought didn't last for long because...
THEN every.single.fire alarm went of simultaneously in our home. I believe we have at least 7. Ears were ringing. Thank goodness for our rechargeable flashlights (get some...they rock). From the outside, it looked like our home was being burglarized! Hubs fixed the alarms.
The electricity came back on at 6:30am. I was BEAT! Long night, but hopefully some more fruit will give us a delightful afternoon!
Next on my list: Strawberry Milkshakes with Marshmallows!
(serves 2)
1.5 cups milk
2 large scoops vanilla ice cream
1/4 teaspn vanilla extract
6 marshmallows, cut in 1/2
1 cup cut up strawberries

Place all but marshmallows in blender and blend until smooth. Press cut part of marshmallow into inside of glass.

I'm thinking Reddi Whip and a nice cherry would give our day an extra happy boost!

  1. Isn't it just miserably hot outside?? It was 101 today WITHOUT factoring in the heat index (which made it like 108). Sorry I've been an absentee commenter for so long - morning sickness has put blogging on the back burner, but I'm trying to get current so I don't fall too far behind. Have missed reading about your sweet family!
