Planet Earth

Happy Earth Day!

We started celebrating a day early around here.

Little Henry...

sporting his earth, moon and stars jammies!

(along with bedhead and a round little tummy)

My project for Earth Day?

It all started with these.

Yes. Toilet paper rolls.
It's all about recycling!

So from this...

To THIS!

We (Laney was my assistant) made some fun napkin rings!

1. cut toilet paper roll into 2 halves.

2. paint outside (two coats)

3. paint inside

4. add embellishments

5. varnish

I added some fun thread (just random hand sewn), made fabric flowers out of SCRAP fabric, and glued on some beads in the middle of the flowers.

Oh, and those white flowers...made out of ....TOILET PAPER!
(I also varnished the toilet paper...makes the TP hard!)
We made 8 different rings.

And the cost?????

FREE!
*****
Some bunny and her bear friend decided to test out our new rings.

The verdict...

our recycled toilet paper rolls turned napkin rings stood up to:

a 5 year old, a bear and lotsa chocolate!

****
And finally my oldest...

Emily celebrated Earth Day with a field trip to our local park!

The whole second grade went for the day.

My sweet girl came home with a lovely sugar maple starter, a stainless steel water bottle, an adorable little shirt that all of the kiddies wore, many arts and crafts and stories about a wonderful day--celebrating our Earth.
****
Earth Day....all the little things that we can do to just help out our Earth...
We are trying to do a little bit more here...recycling is big!
I'm often keeping more boxes, cardboard rolls, and many more items...
They will always find another use...after a bit of CREATING...art!

And ending on a TOILET PAPER note...
We have a new guest in our bathroom!
A little two year old keeps taking off his diaper after he goes.
Hopefully, this green and blue friend will help my dear Henry out!
HAPPY EARTH DAY!
