Our Woods: Deerlightful!

So, are you all enjoying some lazy summer days?

Summer here in the Midwest means CRAZY weather.

Some days might be cool...jean sporting days like earlier in the week.

But then, with the flip of a switch...the humidity just rolls in.

You feel it...like wearing a thick wool blanket in a sauna...smothering!

Yes, I dream of sleeping under the stars while rocking in a hammock while listening to the tide roll in (Ahhh...ocean life sounds sooo dreamy!).

Indiana, I have so much to complain about, but...I've ALWAYS loved my little home in the woods.

It's like living at camp, in a tree house, away from every day life.

Trees canopy our home.

And I never, ever, ever tire of visiting with my wild neighbor friends.

Just this morning, at 6:30 am, something caught my eye...right out my front door...

Mr. Deer!

I get so giddy every time I see one, especially, walking in my driveway!

Yes, I have found my own little slice of heaven, my woods.

*****

And even though I feel like we have a bit of camp right here in our backyard, big sister is LOVING her days away at camp!

She is now old enough to stay over for one night.

She hasn't been too sure, but Cousin Megan and some friends are going to stay...

and they are pulling for her!

She said she's staying, so after camp yesterday, the little ones and I surprised Emily with a new sleeping bag, toiletry bags and fun sample sized toiletries!

Yep, she loved it!

And little sis got a sleeping bag too.

We are going to have our own little sleepover here at home when Emily is gone for the night.
And little brother?
He's just happy diving into the girls' sleep bags!
Speaking of the little cutie,
here's his new "thing"...putting his fingers in his mouth.
I assume they are pretty tasty?!

So while my oldest is at camp,
Laney is a little fish at swim lessons!

This afternoon, after swim and while little man was down for a nap,
Laney and I got busy!
Our whole big family (6 little families) is going to have a barn sale next weekend.
I've never had a barn sale...or a garage sale, yard sale...nope, none of it!

Here's Laney's sign!
(I may have jazzed it up a bit after this pix!)

A barn sale.
Yes, it does sound a bit neat.
Old, amazing wooden barn,
balloons,
old treasures,
fun signs,
and a lemonade stand is even being whispered around from the girlies.

Yes, my little home in the woods (with a barn across the road) is mighty fine.
Where else can you chat with fuzzy neighbors who are right outside your door?

And sometimes, they even watch me from above like last night's friend.
Oh, and how they make me giggle...letting me know how humid it is in the afternoon...
and that I need to slow down the pace.

It's pretty rad that I can sit right on my porch and get this sunset view at 9:30 every evening.
And right smack in the middle of writing this post, something caught my eye...right out my window.

Got him!

Love this guy already!

So, tell me...what do you all love so much about where you live?

Summer Is For...

The longest day of the year has gone by.

Summer is in full bloom.

And we are using every opportunity to enjoy our summer.

Summer is for friendships...

last Thursday, I had my friend, Alyssa, over...

and looky what she MADE me!

3D napkins!
So Anthro...~swoon~!

And Friday...

8:15 am therapy session for Mr. Henry,

swim lessons for the girls,

then into town for the girls' doctor checkups.

One little girlie had to get a couple of Kindergarten shots!

She braved it out...

she really tried not to cry, but as I lie on her, waiting for the shots, tears came down her face.
So, guess who got to pick out a new Barbie after?

Being the nice sister that she is, she asked if big sister could get one too.

And you know...those two played so nice for hours after!

So, summer is for sisterhood.

Summer is also for bike loving!

My guy...every Saturday...a new triathlon.

If he's not on his bike, he's giving it some tune up love!

Saturday...

My first attempt at GFCF chocolate chip cookies.

The kiddies said they rocked!

Summer is for baking!

Big sister and I worked on her mini 4H project...an art collage!

Summer is for new art projects!

And as always...Summer is for family.

Sunday...the guys worked hard on Grandma's new deck.

The kids were up and down the lane all day...

I was too....visiting, trading magazines!

Like I always say...my favorite days are when our lane is buzzing with family!

And...Summer is for CAMP!

Emily had her first day of camp today!

Winds were high and rain was spitting...didn't keep my camper from a smile!

Cousins Megan and Madison went to camp too!

Laney will get to go next year, and she is fine with that.

I have some special activities planned this week for her!

My sweet girl...away she goes.

(And I may or may not have shed a few tears when I got back into my car. Can't help it. Now realize that I will always be THAT mom who is crying about her children!)

And just to prove that it was a cool morning...JEANS in June? Bummer!
Summer is NOT for jeans!

And an afternoon pick me up!

Laney and I love making OLD SCHOOL popcorn!

(Too bad I have both my ipad and iphone up in the background! Such a sick addiction! I'm always searching the web for some trivial answer!)
Summer is for popcorn!

And tonight...

my sweet babies!

Whenever Uncle Kyle comes down the lane on his 4-wheeler, Henry's response...RIDE!
(Trust me, they drive as fast as a one legged turtle!)

Summer is for family {turtle} rides!

And finally, summer is for family reading.

Jon and I read to the children every.single.night.

Tonight, Henry even came in to listen to the girls' story!Summer...we live it, we love it!

What is your summer for?

Counting

Dear Speech Delay,

I'm tired of you hanging around. I have a new friend. Go pick on someone else. I'm kicking you to the curb. Check it.....

Later,

Henry

video

P.S. I know all letters in the alphabet too, so watch out!

(Don't know why, but the video I put in of Henry counting from 1-18 only shows up on my computer...not my ipad or iphone. I hope you all can get it. It's a doozy!)

WHOOs Having A Baby?

No, NOT me!

One of my best friends, Alyssa, is going to have baby #4 in a few weeks!

From day one, Alyssa and I just CLICKED.

And now,

a few years later,

our family was so happy to have a little baby dinner for the growing Klatte Family!!!!
Rob, Alyssa and family live in a beautiful log home...

they have amazing gardens,

horses,

a lake,

and their home backs up right into the woods.

It took about 2 seconds for a woodland theme to pOp into my head!

The girls had a lot of fun helping out.

We made this little banner using fabric scraps and twine!

(Notice our raccoon neighbor eating an early dinner? Bottom right)

Mini pie banners too!

My hubs...didn't even give me a funny look when I asked him to cut up some logs!

He totally gets my craziness!

What's nice about living in the woods?

Just go out back for some wood and branches!

A sweet gift for sweet baby Klatte!
(A Purdue onesie, since Rob is Purdue's head soccer coach!)

Take home desserts: smores in a jar! Yum-o!
We just layered graham cracker crumbs,
chocolate pudding,
mini marshmallows,
and chocolate chips!

Labeled the amazing pies too!

Alyssa loves owls, so we added some here and there.

My dearest Laney...her version of WOODLAND!

Jon grilled burgers,

we added chips and pasta salad...

appetizers to begin with too!

I love the whole WOODLAND/CAMP theme!

I even painted a hoot owl for Alyssa!

Best friends!

(Please don't turn me in to Child Protective Services...I promise that my daughter was not harmed! Hahaha!)

The expecting parents!!!!!!!!!

Great dinner, great friends.

We can't wait to meet baby boy Klatte!

Yep, killer party....we were all pooped at the end of the night (9pm)!

So, WHOOs gonna have a rockin' weekend?

We are for sure!

Enjoy yours!

Here Fishy, Fishy

1. Remember the Hog Jog (last post)?

2. Remember that Laney would have had her race in the bag,

but she got fouled up along the route?
3. Remember that she got an extra free ice cream coupon?

Guess someone is still feeling sorry for my gal...

because...

SHE MADE THE FRONT PAGE OF OUR LOCAL PAPER!!!!!

Ya, she's feeling like a rock star!

Swimming lessons are in full swing!

I take the girls to a private pool.

The gal that gives lessons is our local school nurse.

She's been giving lessons forEVER.

What a double plus...the gal clearly knows her swimming, and she's a nurse...just incase!

Her adult daughter helps her, and the girls just love it!

Em...that girl can tread water for like 30 minutes....

Swims the length of the pool...

and does a pretty slick dive off of the board.

She's my graceful glider.

And while Em is having her lessons, Laney is always making new friends!

But soon enough,

Laney's lessons begin!

My middle baby...now she is the daredevil....a total powerhouse!

And how are we spending our summer afternoons as of late?

Painting!

My colorful girl!

She just layers paint colors...smiling and singing the whole time!

And my oldest...very precise...and not too shabby either!
Still thoroughly enjoying our summer!

Hog Jog For Dad's Day

The weekend started off with a BANG! These not too pretty turkey vultures were banging around our woods! They are way too big for our little woods; therefore, they just kept hitting everything! Ya, I'm an animal lover, but these guys can keep away. Ick!

Pizza takeout on Friday night...even got Henry his own personalized pizza...gluten free crust and no cheese. I taste test everything before he eats it, and you know....it was just as good as a "regular" pizza. I might order the Henry special next time. It was that good!

Saturday morning....everyone was up and at 'em...early! We were all ready to participate in our local Hog Jog! Up first, Emily and I ran the 2 mile! It was Emily's first time ever running in an organized race (with shoe chips and all). She was pretty excited! So many of our friends were running as well! Emily was thrilled that her good friends Morgan and Jenna were running! My friend Lacey ran with them! Even though everyone took off pretty fast, I kept Emily back with me...wanted to pace her. We had a great little run! A few blocks from the finish, I told Emily to go ahead and pass her friend's older brother...and away my girlie ran! She passed him and didn't look back! Oh, ya...that's my girl! Hubs only had the zoom lens and couldn't get a shot because our speedy was so close!

Our local grocery store cuts up some yum watermelon for racers! MMMMM!

And Emily's official 2011 2 mile finish photo. So proud of my girl!

Up next, the 10K. Jon and his dad ran this one. Jon has pushed one of our children every year since Emily was 7 months old! Here are the boys taking off with Henry! While the boys were out running, I had some fun with the girls! Here they are with Sunny from our local radio station! And the finish...again, darn zoom lens!

And, of course, they save the best for last...the children's run...the runt jog. Laney is the 2010 champ, and we were excited for her to try to keep her title! Talking out the course with her cute friend Elah! After the whistle, Laney shot out like a Derby race horse...or greyhound...must have gotten tips from our dog, Sacco! Ha! Laney was out in front, then missed her first turn. Backtracked and still was in the lead. Took another wrong turn and then got embarrassed, frustrated...and then tears came. She finished the race, poor girl. We were all so proud of her. Next year, we will plant people along her course, telling her where to go! Ha!

Love my little sprinter! But...what makes it all better? Ice cream! Each runt jog participant received a FREE ice cream cone! The race crew actually gave Laney 2 FREE coupons...maybe they felt sorry for her. My girl turned around and gave it to her big sis. Overall, it was a great morning race! Everyone came home with a ribbon, ice cream and more. My parents, Jon's parents, grandma, aunt/uncle, cousins....they all came out to run and cheer each other on..so awesome!

Saturday afternoon, our family of 5 went shopping! We made our Trader Joe's/Whole Foods runs. Ate at Chipotle...a first...and LOVED! And while in Anthro, heard the best little song! Told hubs that I would pay him $5 if he asked who sang it. After I checked out (got a fun skirt), hubs already had it downloaded onto my phone! Whatta man...Check it at the bottom of my blog...playlist #1!!!!!

And today...

After an early morning 45 mile bike ride with his dad, Jon came home to greet his three favorite little people!

And Henry tried driving the gator...which made his daddy's day a wee bit more special. But, hey, what's wrong with this picture?! So maybe he's not ready to drive yet. Glad big sis was there to help him out, since his hands were full of toys!

Happy Father's Day!
